My wife Debbie has always been the light of my life. She has always supported me in my mission endeavors and has been my partner in almost all of my missions at home. Debbie has never traveled to Africa or Brazil on one of my missions. She has always stayed home and "held down the fort" so to speak. One day in July in 2005 God sent Debbie a blessing all the way from Kenya.
One afternoon as Sampson, my Kenyan interpreter, and I were eating lunch, something very exciting happened. A woman from a nearby village approached Sampson and whispered something in his ear. As he listened he smiled and asked, "Tony, what is your wife’s name?" I said, "Her name is Debbie." The curious women whispered again as Sampson smiled. Then he asked, "Could you write her name down on a piece of paper?" I jotted the name down and handed it to Sampson. He handed it to the women. She quickly took off running down the dirt road near Kiwandoni Baptist Church until she disappeared. I asked the pastor what was said. He told me that the woman was from a village not too far from there. She said that her friend had a baby the day before and wanted to name it after my wife. He asked me if I would like to meet the new mother that afternoon. I said that I would be honored. At about 3:00 that afternoon we walked about a mile and a half until we reached the newborn’s house. It was a typical mud house with a thatch roof and dirt floor. As Sampson and I introduced ourselves, the proud mother pulled back the blanket and with a smile showed us her new baby girl. I asked the mother the baby’s full name. Margaret, the mother, said her name is Debbie Neema. The word Neema means "Grace" in Swahili. Sampson and I visited and took pictures for about fifteen minutes. Before we left the homestead, we laid hands on little Debbie and blessed her and her family. For some strange reason God wanted our family and Debbie Neema’s to be a blessing to one another. I hope that God will one day allow me and my wife to see this child again. Please pray that God will do awesome miracles in Debbie Neema’s life. In my opinion, both Debbies are a gift of Grace.
